This pendant, made of thick bronze and showing signs of wear, depicts Khyung Ngonpo, also known as the Blue King of Birds. This deity originates from Bon tradition and later merged with the Garuda deity that was introduced from India. Originally, the figure featured three bird faces (before significant ritual wear), two horns on its crowned head, and its wings were dramatically outstretched, with a long string of jewels held in its beak.
The Garuda, as a protector deity, is believed to safeguard devotees from evil and negative energies, symbolizing wisdom, courage, and strength. Followers believe that by offering and worshipping it, they can overcome difficulties and gain inner strength. Additionally, it is associated with healing and purification, as devotees seek physical and mental well-being, fostering a pursuit of power, wisdom, and inner peace.
